Harbor City, CA LA Fitness Club Details Harbor City, CA Kids Klub Hours Harbor City, CA Class Schedule

While mostly known for its iconic stand-alone style facilities, the LA Fitness Harbor City, CA is a bit contrarian as it is tucked into the Palo Woods shopping center. This doesn’t mean that members at this facility are sold short when compared to the big-box style gyms in any way. In fact, because of its inclusion in the shopping center parking is never an issue.

This club has everything that the best LA Fitness locations are known for. Spa, sauna, juice bar, Kids Klub, premium locker rooms have all been included in the floor plan of this super-gym. Also, the fact that the gym is located close to the expressway means that its incredibly easy for members to get to and from this location.

The full gambit of training options are included here as well. The Harbor City, CA gym has all of the major zones which are standard fare at most LA Fitness locations. So you’ll find free weight and selectable nautilus-style machines for building lean muscle and boosting strength as well as treadmills, stair climbers, ellipticals, and rowing machines for cardio training.

Team sports options include both basketball and racquetball with new courts for both. The basketball court is not regulation-size though. I guess that there wasn’t enough room in the floor plan to make that happen. Group exercise classes are also available. Traditional favorites like Aerobic step and yoga are joined by cutting-edge sessions such as Body Works and Zumba. An indoor lane-divided swimming pool rounds out the training options members can choose from.

Robert Kroese TestimonialA couple years ago I canceled my Bally’s membership because I just wasn’t using it. The place was a little bit further than I wanted to drive and over time it just started seeming so run down. It all added up to me feeling like the whole things was a waste of my time.

There are a bunch of gyms near me but I joined this gym because it was close to home and new. At first the facility was clean, the equipment good etc.. After a few months the quality has plummeted.

There are way too many broken machines that have gone too long without being fixed.

The pool was cloudy and a sand like substance was at the bottom. Saw a big clump of hair by the stairs.

The women’s restroom had a strong urine smell and was filthy with trash on the floor. There were 3 out of order faucets in there too.

I suggest LA Fitness’ corporate folks get in there quick because they’re going to lose folks fast. The staff all congregates at the front and seem to be more interested in harassing people to sign up for training than keeping the place clean and in working order. I’ll be cancelling my membership and finding another place as soon as I can find a decent one nearby.

This gym has the potential to be really, really good but the upkeep on the place is holding it back. This is a direct result of the attitudes of the people who work here, which is nowhere near where it needs to be in order to qualify as good customer service.

Sure, you have lots of machines, lots of weights, a basketball court. Pool for swimming laps. But 24 Hour Fitness has all that too and they’re pretty much priced the same. At least within $10 p/month.

The reason that this gym isn’t getting top marks is because it’s poorly maintained. The pool needs to be cleaned a LOT more often. The locker rooms too. Of course, who’s fault is this? The staff.

Which brings me to the heart of the matter. The staff here need to be retrained from the ground up. Trainers seems to be more sales people than trainers. The people who check you in at the front are often distracted and seem to care a lot more about texting their friends on their iPhone than they do about their job. And it’s the STAFF that is responsible for the cleanliness of the gym.

The good thing is that this easy to change. Just get the staff in line and all the rest of the things that are sub-par at the Harbor City LA Fitness will fix themselves.

I was really excited to hear that LA Fitness was opening a gym in by back yard right here in Harbor City, CA. Sweet! The place opened back in January and started signing up members. I shop over that way though and saw that things got real busy real fast and decided to wait a bit for the “newness” of the gym to wear off for the initial members. Besides that, I was rather busy with classes at the time, so I wouldn’t have had time to work out anyway.

Once I did join about two months back I found that this club was everything I had been looking for. The inner athlete in me pretty much told me that I had arrived home after a long sojourn I the desert or something. I’m sure that people here will complain about the fact that everyone is pressured into signing up for the gym. That didn’t phase me. I was pretty much sold before I even set into the place simply on location and cleanliness alone, so I’m not the type who can complain about being put through the ringer by the sales guys. A little negotiation got my sign-up rate as close to nothing as possible and the monthly rate is great.

Inside the gym you find exactly what you expect. A new facility with new equipment and all the bells and whistles shining like the lights on broadway. Very nice. Cardio machines are never broken down, weight equipment is always ready to go, and I never have to feel freaked out about the locker room being a mess…because it’s not!

There are a lot of little things here too that go a long way. Like the fact that each cardio machine has a dock for your iPod as well as a little TV. I’ve always steered away from weight machines, but these ones have a little instruction guide telling you how to use them properly and highlighting the muscle groups receiving training, so I use them now.

All-in-all, I’m happy as heck to be a member at the Harbor City, CA LA Fitness club. All I can hope for is that the people in charge of this place keep things going great and don’t let everything slide down into the gutter. Poor service, poor maintenance, or shitty attitudes on the part of the personal trainers can send a club downhill fast. I know this from experience and I really, really don’t want to see a repeat of that process played out here.
