Looking to join a new gym like LA Fitness Cypress without doing some research is like looking through a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. Considering the fact that there are quite a few Houston gyms which all serve the same basic purpose of helping members get to the next level in their fitness journey, it makes sense to do some research in advance. LA Fitness Cypress is going to stand out from most other TX gyms. Size may not be everything but it does count for a lot where gyms are concerned. Since LA Fitness Cypress has at least twice the floor space of the average Cypress area gym, it's got a leg-up on the competition from the get-go. The management of these larger gyms can work against them if the staff doesn't run a tight ship. Smaller gyms can (and often do) get higher ratings than super-clubs such as this. It's because of this that it's always a good idea to read reviews about the gyms you think you might want to join before actually signing on the dotted line.
Almost all LA Fitness clubs can fall into one of two floor plan categories. There's the stand-alone version and there's the shopping-center version. The Cypress TX LA Fitness club is built on the stand-alone platform which has proven to work well for the company and its members. While most of these are going to be shared in common with other LA Fitness locations, some sites have more features than others so here's the fitness features you can expect to find if you sign up here:
Progressive Strength Training - while the importance of strength is starting to get it's proper share of attention by the media these days, this hasn't always been the case. While running around on treadmills and whirling about on elliptical machines tends to be the first thing that people think of when the word gym is mentioned, it would do most people good to spend more time resistance training and trying to get strong and cut the amount of time they spend on cardio machines. Any personal trainer who does not immediately move to put their clients on program which spends 3 out of 4 gym days lifting weights is either doing them a disservice or just giving the client what they, in their ignorance, want to focus on. Our knowledge of biochemistry has informed us many years ago that muscle boosts the body's overall metabolism. Sure, running a 10k every morning is going to burn a lot of calories but once the race is done that rate drops off sharply, and depending on how well you feed yourself for recovery, may cause your body to lower its rate of metabolism to compensate for the race effects and stall any further progress for the day. As this isn't controversial in any way, most people would do well to shift their workout routine towards building strength if they are hoping to "get in shape" or "lose" weight. This important truth was not lost on those who build LA Fitness Cypress which is why you'll find not just one, but TWO strength training zones.
A complete line of circuit training machines is the first of these two zones. These modern marvels do a good job of isolating individual muscle groups and as you move from station to station through the course of your workout you end up working out all the muscle groups in your entire body. Each workout becomes a full-body workout which is one of the major benefits that machines have over free weights. A lot of people who focus only on free weights end up building their body in an unproportinal way because they only focus on training the areas that they see in the mirror. This is pretty much a universal truth. Whether you’re at LA Fitness Cypress, 24 Hour Fitness, or even some Crossfit gyms, you'll see guys hitting the bench press and doing high-rep sets of curls far more than you see them doing deep back squats, deadlifts, and other lower-body or full-body exercises. That why LA Fitness Cypress gets things right by giving every new member an introductory session showing them how to use the weight machines properly.
Nobody is denying that isolation weight machines are not good at what they do, because they are. Even so, time has proven that the individual who instead chooses to master the art of free weight training will see far greater gains in a shorter period of time than he or she would if using machines alone. This is because the body has a preference to work together as a unit. Training the body as an integrated unit just makes sense. A proper focus on lifting the heaviest weight possible with a barbell supplemented with dumbbell work will undoubtedly yield the best results. It's important to remember to get someone with experience in free weight lifting to give you an overview of how to perform the lifts properly. At lighter weights, mistakes in form can go unnoticed; as progress is made though, poor lifting practices can translate into serious injury.
Healthy Juice Bar - so many people were making foolish choices in drinking soda and corn-syrup laden sports drinks that it only made sense when building the Cypress TX LA Fitness club to put a healthy juice bar in as well. While strawerries, mellons, apples, oranges, and pears all have sugar, which makes them a less-than-optimal-choice of beverage if one is trying to lose weight, the drinks offered at the LA Fitness Cypress juice bar offer far more nutritional benefit than what you'll find in a bottle of Gatorade. Some LA Fitness Houston locations have a juice bar and some do not so it's nice that LA Fitness Cypress designers chose to add this to the gym's floor plan. Remember, though, when you step to the counter at the fruit juice bar, that juice has a lot of sugar in it which can hamper your ability to shed excess fat. Intense exercise can quickly deplete the body's levels of glycogen. Glycogen is a form of stored energy that is in easily accessible form. It is quickly converted into glucose and then into the body's pure form of energy ATP. Using fruit juice as a post-workout drink makes sense as it is composed in such a way that it can help quickly restore the liver's supply of glycogen to more normal levels. Since the liver's supply of glycogen is restored the body doesn't have to resort to cannibalizing the protein in its muscle tissue in order to replenish these energy reserves and all available protein can be directed to strengthening muscle fibers. Think about that little bit of biochemical trivia when you pass the next time you pass by the juice bar.
Cedar Sauna & Hot Tub - if you ever feel overwhelmed with stress then you might want to try sitting in a sauna for 20 minutes or so. The super-hot temperatures allow the body to release both tension and toxins. Relaxing in a whirlpool can have similar effects. Thankfully, since LA Fitness Cypress has both, you don't have to worry about not having access to these two invaluable resources. Some gyms have separate saunas for men and women attached to their respective locker rooms, but most do not. The spa is a shared member benefit too.
Instructor Led Classes - if you read a lot of reviews on this site you'll notice that there is a trend where people tend to show up to voice their complaint about a particular LA Fitness location more often than they do to share words of praise. It seems that those who are thrilled with their gym don't bother seeking out a place like Gyms Reviewed.com to say that they like it but those who've been let down in some way feel compelled to vent their frustrations. In spite of this marked trend, people very rarely have bad things to say about the group exercise classes. At LA Fitness Cypress you'll find high-intensity classes such as kickboxing as well as lower intensity offerings such as yoga. LA Fitness makes sure there is a class that can match up with every personality type. Non-members who check out the gym with a 1-day free pass can try out the classes as well as the main exercise equipment. It's a good idea to check the LA Fitness Cypress class schedule before you stop in for a tour so you can be sure that you drop in on a day when the class you are most interested in is being held.
Physical Trainers - nothing is more nerve wracking to someone who has thrown of the shackles of their old lifestyle and consistently heads in to the gym than not seeing results. This type of thing can take the wind out of anyone's sails. The massive media culture of our day has pressed images of people at the gym lifting weights and running on machines and they think that there is not a lot to it. People start working out but can't figure out whether strength training or cardio needs to be their primary focus. Is strength training more important or cardio training? There are scores of questions like these and the professional trainers hired by LA Fitness are there to try to give guidance on these and many other issues. Personal training services are not included with membership at LA Fitness Cypress, so you'll have to pay a bit more to have one help you achieve your fitness goals. Is it worth it? Yes. The truth is that more people succeed with personal trainers. Very often, the money spend on the membership is wasted because people don't really know what they need to do and when they need to do it once they sign up.
Premium Atmosphere - from the time the foundation for a new LA Fitness gym is laid, emphasis is placed on creating an atmosphere which is upscale in nature. Both improvements and setbacks in how well a club is maintained have been seen when there is a change in management. When looking at the LA Fitness Cypress reviews below, the newest ones are at the top and the older ones are further down the page. This allows you to peek behind the curtain and see if things seem to be improving over time or not.
Basketball Court - a lot of people will play basketball throughout their college years, but once they move on in life, it seems that very few continue to play the game. Basketball courts at municipal parks can go months without seeing anyone playing there. One of the reasons is that people tend to feel awkward just joining in on a basketball game with a group of people that they don't know. The fact that the court at Cypress TX LA Fitness is protected from the elements and that there are always people there looking to play means that it's a place where you can actually expect to get a good game going just about any day of the week. It's a nice little bonus that most members at LA Fitness Cypress take for granted.
Kids Klub - the LA Fitness Kids Klub child watch program is a huge help to families with kids. The ability for members to drop kids off at the Kid's Klub area removes the biggest obstacle which stands in the way of parents coming to the gym on a consistent basis. It was probably a really good idea for LA Fitness as they are able to get a lot more families to join when they otherwise would not have if no child care had was made available. Let's face it. Most people with kids simply are not going to find someone to watch them every other day of the week so they can stop in at LA Fitness Cypress and put in the time that they need in order to stay healthy. Having Kid's Klub at LA Fitness Cypress changes everything. Kids Klub is another LA Fitness feature which helps set it apart from other gyms out there.
Cardio Training Zone - science has established the heart-healthy benefits of getting 20+ minutes of moderate intensity exercise three times p/week or more. Cardiovascular exercise needs to take center stage for in the fight against heart disease as well as improving the average person's sense of wellbeing. There's no shortage of options at LA Fitness Cypress. Lowered blood pressure, lower stress levels, and improved blood lipid profiles are all benefits of consistently putting in cardio-focused workouts. The cardio area at LA Fitness Cypress can get busy at peak hours, but because of the sheer number of machines available, there is rarely a lengthy wait.
Racquetball Courts - if you want to experience a challenge that is sure to get your heart pumping and your blood racing, then try racquetball. Looking on from outside of the glass enclosure may give you the false impression that this is a simple game where people hit a blue ball back and forth against a wall. It's a lot more than that. One of the great things about racquetball is that it's easy to learn but you can spend years honing your game. People who play this game tend to be pretty open to showing others how to get started. The biggest obstacle to playing racquetball at Cypress TX LA Fitness is finding someone else to play with so, the more members who learn how to play the more choices each individual player has in order to get a game going.
Many choices are available to LA Fitness Cypress members. The point can be made that more is not necessarily better - sometimes it's just more. Pricing at LA Fitness Cypress tends to be on the low side - especially when you take into consideration all the options that are included with even a basic membership. It's important to remember that while memberships here tend to be all-inclusive there are some services which do come at extra cost. The privilege of dropping your children off at the child watch area comes at an additional cost as does access to other area clubs. If you want work out here and at LA Fitness Eldridge Lakes as well, it's important to let the LA Fitness representative know this in advance so that you don't have to go through the trouble of having your membership paperwork revised after the fact.
Having read this far you now know more about Cypress TX LA Fitness than many of the actual members who go there. At this point you want to read the first-hand accounts of how the gym is operated below. Newer reviews are at the top while older reviews are further down the page. Be sure to come back and write a review of your own after you've chosen a gym to sign up with. If you could, please remember to come back and write a review of your own sharing your experience at LA Fitness Cypress. You may think that just because you decided to only take a tour but don't sign up that what you have to say is of no consequence. This is a true. People are interested in what you know about this gym and your knowledge cannot benefit them unless you stop by again and share which you know. What you have to share may be exactly what someone else needs to know.

My family & i are all members of LA Fitness. I am very disappointed in how rhey run their business. .
My son is in the Marines & home for 2 weeks from Afganastan. He printed out a 7 day pass & worked out at the Cypress 529 gym. During his 1st visit was told he could not work out there. The 2nd visit to the same gym, the manager stopped him while jogging on the treadmill & told him he did not belong there. John told him he is a Marine & on leave from Afganastan. The manager was rude and told him he did not give a f—- about him being in the Marines & did not care what war zone he can from. He told him to leave & not return, he does not belong there. I have a membership with this gym & it disappoints me someone can treat our soldiers so badly.
My fiancé wrote a letter to the main office & still has not heard from them.
This is not the first time my son had trouble with the LA Fitness gyms. Last year he came home on leave & went to the gym at Eldridge, Houston. His military ID was dropped between the counter by a clerk there. He needed it to fly out. His leave was to leave from Houston & days later fly out to Afganastan. The managers, staff and everyone was no help. We had to continuously call, walk in, & hassle them to pull the military ID out. It was done a couple of hours before his flight out. What a mess. This gym does not honor our military or people in general.
We are discontinuing our membership with LA Fitness.
I am discontinuing my membership & will go elsewhere. This gym is not worth the hassle.
