Erin Allday ReviewUntil recently I lived in Michigan and was a member of the Royal Oak MI LA Fitness since it opened. I really liked the gym and was worried when I learned that a move out to California was going to be required if I wanted to stay with the best fiancé in the world who just so happened to be going to med-school out this way. I know that some LA Fitness locations are run better than others and who knew if the Redlands location was going to be on par with the newly built club in MI? I would soon find out that... Read More

Cadrio training is considered by many to be the foundation of any fitness program. Cardio-based routines boost heart rate, strengthen endurance, and improve the efficiency in which your body delivers oxygen to the blood. The Redlands CA LA Fitness has a large amount of floor space dedicated to cardio machines of all types. Most are equipped with the latest tech enhancements.

Strength Training isn’t left behind at this LA Fitness either. Within the walls of this gym you’ll find both free weights and selectech machines. The machines are a bit easier to use, so if you don’t have a lot of experience with free weights, you can still get a fast start to gaining lean muscle mass by utilizing the scientifically designed isolation training programs the machines afford. Free weights are, by far, the best option for achieving fitness but they do require an effort on your part to learn how to perform properly. If you do take free weight training seriously, though, you can find a great selection of barbells, dumbbells, cable machines, and more here.

Group exercise classes are held all throughout the week. They range from new-style classes such as Zumba to tried-and-true aerobics options. Classes are free with membership which means that if you like to anchor your fitness program around classes you’ll be getting a lot more for your money at the Redlands LA Fitness than at other gyms in the area that don’t include classes for free.

Most LA Fitness locations have a basketball court and racquetball enclosures. The Redlands location is no exception. It also sports upgraded locker rooms, a wood-lined sauna, hot bubbling whirlpool, lane-divided swimming pool, and child watch center. It does lack a juice bar, but that’s the only semi-standard LA Fitness feature which is lacking.

If you’re looking for a top-level fitness studio in town, this is the place to go. Tons of classes for everyone and plenty of space & equipment to work out. They have lots of good stuff here that will keep you active for a long time to come. The lockers are key coded, and they have lots and lots of staff to keep it in tip top shape. The in gym smoothie bar is the BOMB, their pumpkin pie smoothie is enough to add a star! There are a lot of gyms that are similar to this one but this LA Fitness seems to do those things better. I have also gone on the weekends, and it is never over crowded.

The equipment seems to be new and the classes are intense (if classes are your thing) and the people who work here are friendly overall. What’s not to like? I’m trying to think of something big that is out of place here but can’t come up with anything.

While people here are dedicated to fitness, they are not snobbish nor are they so serious that they come across as harsh and impersonal. People care about their looks and health but they don’t take it too far.

There’s a lot of stuff to do in Redlands, so people ask me why I joined as a member of LA Fitness Redland CA. One word: Classes. You really can’t go wrong with a training class at LA Fitness Redland CA. They all seem to be taught by people who know what they are doing, have a high amount of energy to give, and practice what they preach. There’s a lot of energy here generated by both the instructors and the other participants. I didn’t get that at the other gym I went to and it’s really refreshing to see how different a kickboxing class can be from one gym to another.

You know that you’re in a place where people don’t care when they all show up in ratty t-shirts and grease-stained shorts. That’s not what happens here. I don’t know anyone who thinks that the classes are overly repetitious or boring, which says a lot because anyone can burn out on group classes pretty quick.

Until recently I lived in Michigan and was a member of the Royal Oak MI LA Fitness since it opened. I would soon find out that there really wasn’t anything to worry about. Once I arrived at the Redlands LA Fitness location I felt like I was right at home. The place is just as clean as the old gym and the variety in the equipment is the same. All of it seems to be pretty well maintained and I never feel like my workout is being hampered by a busted machine here or there.

One thing I’ve noticed is that people here seem to be a little bit more in shape than back in Michigan. I think it’s probably the fact that this is California and people care about their health a little more because they are not always hiding away in their homes trying to keep out of the cold. That or the fact that people up there are chronically Vitamin D deprived from lack of sun exposure. The other members are nice and so are the staff here. I’ve got no problems with them but I’ve not hired a trainer or anything either.

You might be able to tell that I don’t really focus on the details what a gym “has” as much as what a gym “is” in this review. I’ve found that most gyms are very much the same in what they offer fitness wise. A treadmills is a treadmill. Strength machines are all created equal. An Olympic barbell is 45 lbs no matter where you go. The difference is in the “character” of a place. Is it an environment that you want to come back to day-in and day-out? Most gyms can’t boast that they are that type of place but I think that the LA Fitness Redlands CA is one of the few that can lay claim to that title.
