LA Fitness Woodbridge VA

4 Reviews

Located just west of the I-95 expressway and about five minutes from the Potomac Mills shopping center, the Woodbridge, VA LA Fitness is in the right place to help the most people achieve a better life through increased health and fitness.

The gym brings the majority of the company’s traditional elements to the Woodbridge facility including group exercise classes, personal training, free weight area, cardio training area, basketball courts, racquetball courts, and premium locker rooms with attached sauna.

Membership fees at this gym are kept a trade secret and, unless you negotiate otherwise, will always involve a signup fee. It is advisable to do some research on pricing by reading some reviews as there are ways to save money that some may not be aware of. Also, be sure to take everything you read with a grain of salt as people who have been upset while at a gym are more likely to go online and write a bad review than those who are more than happy with the club.

The three major training zones are at the heart of the club. These include the well-stocked free weight area, the strength training machine area, and the cardiovascular training center. The staff make sure to keep these areas of the club sanitized, well organized, and ready to go when you are.

The auxiliary training areas such as the swimming pool, basketball and racquetball courts, and group exercise classes often don’t get as much attention, but they are all included at no extra charge. This goes a long way, especially with the classes as there’s a wide variety to choose from to keep your workout routine spicy and different.

The LA Fitness in Woodbridge, VA boats premium appointed locker rooms with attached dry heat sauna as well as a hot tub spa in the pool area. Individual shower stalls are standard fare. Those with children will appreciate the Kids Club center which is designed to keep kids engaged and entertained with a variety of learning games and play structures.

I have been a member at this gym for about 3 yrs. in my opinion it is going down the hill. Some of the things that have been consistent are the fact that the staff is very unfriendly ( especially the front desk crew) also very uninformed, and Barry being an obnoxious and very greedy salesman. He is the main reason why I decided to write a review. It is so sad to see him treat people differently, for example if he is dealing with potential customers that don’t speak much English, it is a given that he will rip them off. Not only do they sign up at the highest membership rate but also end up paying rediculous amount for initiation fee. My advice- stay away from BARRY ( he is a professional thief), wether you speak good English or not. One last thing, it is time for LA fitness to look around and step up their game, especially with equipment maintenance. It looks like they’re going to loose a lot of their customers to the new Sport and health, including me.

I have only been a member for a very short time. But reading two previous reviews before writing my own, I agree with the 2 that I read Gary and Ray. My experience has been exactly what they stated. I called to set an appt. for a tour and was told didn’t need an appt. Each time I asked about tour while there one of the staff personnel that assumedly gives the tour is not availble. Which is why I was trying to set an appt. The door greeting staff is really not that friendly at all, and seem to be quite preoccupied or almost disturbed. I enjoy the classes such as a lot of the women that come there do as well. Certain classes that are overcrowded should be offered more. I have been a member of many other facilitys. If I must give names, Sport and Health has a great staff and facilities. One that is not here in VA but 24hr Fitness staff and facilities are impecable. La Fitness needs to step up there game. My opinion is you guys don’t compare to the two previous facilitys that I just mentioned at least not the Woodbridge, VA facility doesn’t. And I won’t say its the facility I am saying the staff. I think there is still a lot to be learned. I continue to go because I am changing my way of life and working on being healthy. But I could leave as quickly as I came and find another facility with staff the gives a $@#! about their clients/customers. Oh yea last thing is I think Woodbridge needs more motivational folks working for them or with them like Steve the spin/boot camp guy. He will be greatly missed when he moves.

Georgeous facility. Lots of equipment. Great classes. What’s not to like, right?

Unfortunately, when you look a bit deeper into things (usually after you’ve already signed up) you find that not everything is perfect in paradise. That’s the type of experience I’ve had with LA Fitness.

Take equipment for example. When you go on a tour, you seem overwhelmed with the number of selections available where equipment is concerned. Rows and rows of cardio machines. A plethora of weight lifting machine. An entire free weight zone. Closer inspection, however, shows that this entire setup is engineered to created the “perception” that the place has all the equipment that you could ever need. Once you’ve signed up and are working out in the facility you discover that during peek hours, there might as well not be any treadmills or elliptical machines…because you can’t find one that is open. Free weights are consistently a problem too, even during non-peek hours, because the available weights do not match the sheer volume of people who actually show up at the gym on a daily basis.

Another downside is the whole personal training thing. Others have said that they’ve been bamboozled with a bait-n-switch type of tactic where the trainer who they sign up with conveniently changes the term of the contract to 12 months when they never intended to make such a commitment. I’ve not had that experience personally, but I did take the complimentary free session and didn’t rise to the bait when encouraged to sign up for a package of sessions. The trainer became very cold and aloof. Now, every time I’m at the gym and see this person I feel awkward. Like he’s looking at me and saying, “That’s that jerk that didn’t sign up with me. I hate how we have to take risks showing people what working with a trainer is like with no guarantee that they are going to sign on the dotted line. I wish they could just hand us people who are precommitted so I don’t actually have to DO anything but work with trainees.” Rediculous.

I still go consistently, but that’s because I’m committed to staying in good health long into my life…not because this gym is such a wonderful place in which to spend my time.

I have been a member of many workout facilities in the Metro area. I was a Bally’s member since 1976. I have also visited many local gyms in this area. La Fitness has plenty of equipment to achieve the goals I have set for myself. The facility is clean and the equipment is properly maintained. The problem I have, is the atmosphere! The minute you walk into this gym and approach the front desk you feel like your a bother to the staff. Never do you receive a mere hello or have a good workout. While walking through the gym to the locker room you pass by the numerous cubicles where most of the staff hide! After signing up your basically on you own, unless you hire a personal trainer. Thankfully I was a certified trainer and don’t need that service. I observe many members incorrectly performing exercise routines and operating the equipment poorly! I have never seen a staff member ever help anyone or even be available to ask a question, if you need help. The pool area is OK except is always messy with pool equipment all over the deck. There are also paper signs taped to the wall adjacent to the hot tub, very unprofessional looking. Finally when leaving the gym the staff acts like your invisible. I’am not looking for a friend just a more friendly place!
